It All Started with An Idea...

n 1966, William "Bill" Lomas was a trophy manufacturer who was trying to figure out how to increase trophy sales for his fledgling business. Parades were pretty good business, for trophies. Since all the participants were typically volunteer, the way parades committees get the various units to participate is by offering competitive judging and awarding trophies to the best of class in every category: Best Equestrians - 1st, 2nd, 3rd; Best Marching Bands - 1st, 2nd, 3rd; Best Drill Teams - 1st, 2nd, 3rd; Best Floats - 1st, 2nd, 3rd; etc., etc. In other words, your typical parade orders a lot of trophies!
